Táimid ar bís le bheith ag ceiliúradh teanga na Gaeilge! This month, we were honoured to be recognised for our commitment to the Irish language at Gradaim Gnó na hÉireann with Glór na nGael. At the ceremony, we were presented with trí bhonn óir, for incorporating teanga na Gaeilge into the signage, marketing and service offered at Lorg Media.
Gaeilge has always been at the heart of our company’s culture, and as we grow, the language has organically become a unique selling point for us. To receive national recognition for our efforts to improve the use of Irish amongst our clients and team was an honour.
The Irish language has made a huge comeback recently, and we’ve seen firsthand how incorporating Irish can elevate your brand and engage your community. If you would like to bring more Gaeilge into your business, keep reading. It’s easier than you think, agus is fiú go mór é!
Tús maith, leath na hoibre!
There are a few simple things you can start doing right now to incorporate more Gaeilge into your business. Start with the cúpla focal: ‘Maidin mhaith’ and ‘go raibh maith agat’ are easy to add to your daily vocabulary. You could even bring some Gaeilge into your emails, by signing off ‘míle buíochas’ or ‘le gach dea-ghuí’.
Céim ar chéim
There are many other ways to increase the visibility of Gaeilge within your business, such as introducing simple Irish language signage, like ‘Failte’, ‘An Oifig’ and ‘An Seomra Cruinniuthe’ . Another way we like to improve our Gaeilge in Lorg Media every day is by familiarising ourselves with Focal an Lae using resources such as Foclóir, Teanglann and Téarma. This is a great way to add cúpla focal nua to your vocabulary every day.
Níos mó ná an cúpla focal
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can take Gaeilge in your business to the next leibhéal! Start incorporating the Irish language into your social media posts and on your website, or include teanga na Gaeilge in your packaging or business merchandise. The social media landscape has seen a new stream of Irish language influencers with growing audiences making waves on various platforms. Why not add an Irish-speaking influencer to your next marketing campaign, so you can appeal to a whole new audience?
In fact, the amended Official Languages Act now requires public bodies to dedicate 20% of their annual advertising budget to the Irish language, with 5% of budget spent on Irish-language media. The new regulations emphasise ‘transcreation’ by encouraging the creative adaptation of concepts into Irish, rather than directly translating them, to preserve the essence of the message.
Ná habair é, déan é!
Why not take on the 20% challenge in your business? Set an attainable goal to increase visibility of the Irish language in your workplace amongst colleagues, customers and clients! Más féidir linn, is féidir leat!
